Review on Thursday 2016

Review on Thursday (2015)is a large installation of seventy-seven individual photographic prints encased in 3mm clear cast acrylic sheeting. Each of the photographs suspend from the wall using Perspex tubes, thereby moving the images into the space of the viewer. Collectively, the documentary photographs that make up the work make a single image of the artist’s grandfather, taken in an isolated hospital room. Its aesthetic, materials and subject give the work a clinical feel; when seen as one image, it appears to both isolate and rupture the body, making it dissolve into the walls and into the ether. The effect is curious and melancholic, at odds with what we might expect of a portrait of a cherished family member.
